Canterbury Time Trial Association is focused on fostering specialist time trialing skills in the Canterbury region. Being a club member is a great way to participate in a calendar of 25+ time trialing events each season during daylight savings. You will also benefit from our support and expertise. Our club members aren’t just time trial specialists – CTTA won the Club Points trophy at the 2016 and 2019 Age Group Road Nationals after performing well in both the road race and time trial events. We welcome people new to the sport and you don’t need the lightest and fastest speed machine to ride – we have people turning up on all sorts of bikes, including commuters, mountain, tandems, trikes, road and super-fast TT bikes.
If you’re new to cycling or not sure if time trialing is for you, come along and give it a go. We offer casual race entry at $10 for 16km $5 for 8km paid on the day, and riders without a Cycling New Zealand club licence can ride in up to three of our races before they must purchase a licence. This is a requirement of our Cycling New Zealand liability insurance.
All regular riders must be Cycling New Zealand licensed. Club membership is a convenient way to combine the cost of licensing and pay a discounted rate for a season full of racing in one fee. Or, if you are already a member of another cycling club, we offer secondary club memberships. Junior riders who have raced at Schools Racing during the winter can apply for a free Cycling New Zealand Schools license, which allows them to ride CTTA events for only $30 for the entire season - if you then choose to ride either regional or national events (eg Canterbury or National championships) you will need to upgrade to a Cycling New Zealand Youth license.
Membership fees are paid through the Cycling New Zealand website for all non-social riders
We share the road with all road users including fellow competitors. Please obey the marshals. Stay to the left, unless passing another rider or an obstacle and please keep the start area clear both before and after your ride. You certainly must not hug the centre line.
Please ride with respect and if riders are seen abusing any of these rules then we will name and shame, your time will not be posted and you may be asked not to ride in future.
We have the support of Hub Cycles who are able to offer CTTA members a 15% discount off purchases and can assist you with road or time trial bike setup to maximise your power and aerodynamic efficiency on the bike.
The Club has a Time Trial cycle jig which conforms to the UCI rules for saddle and aero extension dimensions and enables you to check that your bike is UCI legal. This is a requirement when entering Regional or National championships. Please contact us to get access to the jig.
The club owns a Giant Trinity time trial bike which we hire out to members for $15 per 3 week period - more detail, availability and a booking form can be found here.
Each Tuesday we need at least two volunteers to assist with running our race event:
For races held at venues other than Old Tai Tapu Road additional volunteers are required for traffic marshalling.
We expect all members to volunteer at least once during the season. Please choose your available date and role using the google form.
